Evaluation
A solo man that enters into an alternate world that most people did not know about. In the time that his twin brother disappeared, Yeon became part of the secret service military; gaining a reputation, Cain. He has the skills to kill and the knowledge to solo his missions.
Totally unlike his sunny twin brother, Yeon prefers solitude and finds it more convenient that way. The five years his brother went missing, Yeon never stopped looking for him, until their parents passed away. Left with no-familial attachment back on earth, when Yeon comes across his brother's out-of-the-world possession and experiences whats in it, he leaves with no hesitation.
His twin brother, had entered the world aiming to find the cure to their parent's illness. However, as destiny may have it, the brother became famous too quickly and stuck out like a sore thumb. In the alternate world, the twin had made a name for his group and himself, being the new black horse newbie alliance to advance. They soon attracted too many eyes and enemies swarmed to them in droves.
They poached and tore apart the group from within and without. The twin brother was betrayed my many of his 'friends' and was killed in the end.
The pocket watch (possession) allowed Yeon to experience all that his twin brother did. Hence, the entering of Yeon into the tower was technically a 'Second Life' as the title indicates. The thing about this alternative world was there is an external land and internal tower. Where the ranker have to climb and pass tests on each level to go further. Rest zones were on certain levels (something like every 5 or 10 floors).
So Yeon, with revenge in mind, enters this 'dog eats dog' world. He wears a blank mask to cover his features (that was exactly like his famous twin, so that he does not alert his enemies). Due to the fact that his brother almost became a powerhouse in the world, the enemies Yeon had were part of the largest reigning powers of the tower.
As a preference and precaution, Yeon's cold demeanor has kept many away from him. Especially at the beginning where solo achievements proved more rewarding. Later, after a good bout, a pair of arrogant siblings from the one-horn tribe started to call him older brother; this is were the story gets a little warmer. Yeon is not adverse to affection, he is unused to it.
Yeon gains the name 'The Hoarder' as he keeps hoarding all the achievements and rewards of each level and basically destroys the balance between players. It is to note (more so in the novel) that Yeon keeps his mask on always, so even the good friends (siblings) do not know his face nor real name.
Well written, with spaced missions and enjoyments. Although it may be a little boring to some, as an action, adventure and game novel it is quite good. Though sometimes I do skim over the finer details like numerical growths and equipment status (which is a pain since I do not game). Other than that, I very much do like the novel. One of the few that I keep up to date with.
